United Airlines and Continental Airlines merged in 2010; the merger was valued at over 3 million dollars and created the world?s largest airline. One of the biggest obstacles in completing the merger was the integration of two workforces that had joint contracts. IAM District 41 president Rich Delaney said that airline consolidation had complicated negotiations throughout the airline industry, and that this was even more true for the United - Continental merger.
All parties have now agreed to a timeline and a bargaining process that is designed to achieve joint collective bargaining agreements before the end of 2012 according to a statement from United.
Earlier in August, United Continental (the parent company of United Airlines), stated that they?d reached an agreement in principle with the pilots? union. This agreement has advanced the airlines? efforts to integrate the combined staffs.
