Dragons eighth at Pine City Invitational - Litchfield Independent ...

Litchfield's girls tennis team opened the 2012 season with an eighth-place finish at Monday's Pine City Invitational.

The Dragons won six individual matches, featuring a lineup with few returning starters from 2011.

"I knew we were young and inexperienced," Litchfield coach Matt Draeger said. "When you are inexperienced and young, you have to start somewhere."

Sophomore Lauren Knisley posted a 2-1 record and won the consolation championship at No. 3 singles.

Litchfield dropped its first Wright County Conference meet of the year Tuesday, losing 7-0 to Holy Family Catholic at Litchfield High School.

Krista Miller and Kennedy Sommerfeld played well at No. 1 doubles, losing 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to Holy Family's Jess Menden and Catherine Moakley.
