?The Sprouted Kitchen?: veggie enthusiast Sara Forte shares seasonally-inspired?recipes
Sara Forte grew up eating her fair share of frozen taquitos in a family that loved to sit down for meals together but didn?t necessarily love to cook. Her appreciation for cooking and nutrition came later and she has since made it a career ? first with her blog Sprouted Kitchen, and now with a cookbook, ?The Sprouted Kitchen: A Tastier Take on Whole Foods? (Ten Speed Press, 2012). We talk to Sara about the book and share two recipes: Almond Meal Cookies with Coconut and Cacao Nibs, and Ranchero Breakfast Tostadas.
Ingredient of the week: pumpkin
Pumpkin season is upon us. Our collection of the sweet, the savoury and the boozy will take you beyond the pie with recipes for Baked Pumpkin Pecan Doughnuts, Chipotle Fall Soup and a Pumpkin Old Fashioned. For even more pumpkin, Michael Godel shares four pumpkin ales to look for, as well as seven wines with pumpkin food pairings.
Soups to warm your heart
Four recipes from ?The Soup Sisters Cookbook: 100 Simple Recipes to Warm Hearts ? One Bowl at a Time?: Okanagan Orchard, Blue Cheese Crostini, Curried Sweet Potato, Carrot and Red Lentil Soup, and Sweet Garlic and Sunchoke Soup. We also talked with cookbook editor, and founder of the Calgary-based Soup Sisters, Sharon Hapton about the cookbook and non-profit enterprise that inspired it.
Roasted Chicken with Chorizo and Root Veggies
J.M. Hirsch shares his recipe for variation on a French classic ? roasted chicken: ?everything is just tossed into a pot, put in the oven and ignored until done.?
Seasonal Sips: Autumn Apple White Wine Sangria
Try our autumnal sangria blanca, which combines flavours of the season: apple, cranberry, pear, grapefruit and spice. The Riesling lends a light touch making this punch a perfect fit for holiday entertaining ? either before or after festive feasts.
