Why I love intramural softball - IM Sports - Washington State University

It?s the bottom of the 6^th with two outs and the bases loaded.? The pitch comes in, it?s hit well, and all you can hear is the home team yell, ?Don?t touch home, don?t touch home!??

Yes this is the sound of intramural softball at its finest.? As someone who played baseball in high school and briefly in college, I love that intramurals gives students the opportunity to continue to play at a semi-competitive level.? You don?t have to be the best at a sport to play and it?s easy to find your niche in a sport you may have never played before.? Softball is my favorite sport that the WSU intramural program offers, which is no surprise given my baseball background.

Here are the top 6 reasons why I love intramural softball:

6) You get two seasons.? So when you choke in the first round of the playoffs as the #1 seed in the fall season, you still have the spring season to try and make the second round.

5)? You get to watch all your friends that thought softball wasn?t very tough, whiff on a pitch coming in at a solid 8 MPH.

4)? You can re-live the glory days of high school baseball by wearing your dirt stained baseball pants, stirrups and sweat stained hat, and then hitting a home run off of the pitcher who just laughed at your outfit.

3)? You get to play on turf fields with no bad hops.? So when you make a backhand play in the hole, you can pretend like you didn?t pull your head in fear of taking one in the face.

2)? You get to watch a player that just hit the ball three hundred feet have a home run taken away George Brett-style, because he stepped on home plate.

1)? You get to watch as your boastful roommate, who guaranteed he could hit a homer, swings as hard as he can and pops out to the pitcher to end the game.

I?m sure many of you could come up with plenty more reasons to love intramural softball, and for those of you that have never played, maybe it?s time to grab a glove and join a team this fall.
